RECOMMENDATION:

City Council to provide direction to staff for appointment to the Planning Commission.

BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION:

Planning Commissioner Francisco Mendoza-Gonzalez’s term on the Planning Commission ended December 31, 2017. The City Council has the option to reappoint Commissioner Mendoza-Gonzalez to the Commission or advertise through the City Manager’s office to attract applicants. If Council chooses to advertise, the recommendation is to advertise for 45 days. Mr. Mendoza-Gonzalez will continue serving on the Planning Commission until a new appointment has been made.

Mr. Mendoza-Gonzalez was appointed an Alternate Commissioner in September 2014 and as regular Commissioner in May 2015. Mr. Mendoza-Gonzalez has indicated interest in continuing to serve on the Planning Commission. He has been very reliable and has done an excellent job as Planning Commissioner. If re-appointed, Mr. Mendoza-Gonzalez would serve for a 4-year term ending December 31, 2021.
